MINNEAPOLIS (Nov. 21, 2012) – AMSOIL Championship Snocross, presented by Traxxas, is pleased to announce the return of the AMSOIL DOMINATOR® – the popular Friday night one-one-one bracket racing feature event that kicks off the AMSOIL Duluth National weekend of racing at Spirit Mountain, Nov. 23-25.
The only event of its kind in professional snocross, the $10,000 winner-take-all AMSOIL DOMINATOR® – won by Polaris’ Ross Martin in 2011 – features head-to-head battles between 16 riders drawn from last year’s top eight Pro Open class racers, along with an additional eight Pro Open racers selected during qualifying at Friday’s practice session on the famed Duluth course.
“It’s a throwdown to see who’s on their game coming into the season,” said AMSOIL Race Program Manager Jeremy Meyer. “Sixteen of the world’s best snocross racers battling head-to-head for a year’s worth of bragging rights as the AMSOIL DOMINATOR® champion. I personally can’t wait to get to Spirit Mountain.”
Reigning Pro Open champ Tim Tremblay (Ski-Doo) will be seeded first for Friday’s event. He will be followed by Martin (2nd) and Ski-Doo’s Robbie Malinoski with the third seed.
The idea for the AMSOIL DOMINATOR® came about in 2011 when ISOC’s ACS President/Race Director Carl Schubitzke and Meyer got together at the AMSOIL headquarters in Superior, Wis. The two, along with FXR’s Doug Rust, figured out a way to pick up the action on Friday night for the thousands of fans milling about after practice/qualifying sessions. And it was from those talks that the AMSOIL DOMINATOR® was born – a head-to-head, 2.5-lap quick-hitting bracket race with $10K going to the winner.
“The AMSOIL DOMINATOR® was a huge hit last year with the fans at Duluth,” said Schubitzke. “Fans were on the edge of their seats from the opening race through Ross Martin winning the finals. There were a bunch of upsets and it really set the stage for what happened at Saturday and Sunday’s opening rounds of AMSOIL Championship Snocross. Everyone at ISOC’s pumped to pull off the AMSOIL DOMINATOR® again for the fans this year.”
The gate will drop at 6 p.m. on November 23 at Duluth’s Spirit Mountain on the first of 16 one-on-one Pro Open races – the last of which will decide the second annual AMSOIL DOMINATOR® champion.
