Elk River, Minn. March 8, 2017— A new venue at Sundown Mountain in Dubuque, Iowa welcomed the AMSOIL Championship Snocross Series for rounds 13 and 14. The steep terrain on the picturesque ski hill made it immediately clear that it was going to be a challenging racetrack for all.
The racing on Friday was highlighted by the best performance of the year from Carlson in the Pro Open final. The #151 machine pulled a strong start and battled in the top-three for the majority of the race before arm-pump and a bobble left the door open for the charging riders behind him to make a move. Carlson would go on to finish seventh. Springer was involved in a first-lap pileup, eliminating his chances of running in the front.
“It felt great to run up front with the fastest guys,” said Carlson. “I held onto third for majority of the race, but quit breathing and made some mistakes. I’m confident that I’m better prepared to finish strong at Geneva.”
On Saturday, Springer went on to finish well in qualifying and punched a ticket to the front row of the Pro Open final. Another strong start from the #541 Polaris and some smart driving secured another top-five finish. Carlson wasn’t far behind Springer throughout the main, ultimately finishing in tenth.
Carlson Moto’s development rider, Taylor Cole, continued his streak of success, taking home a win in Sport Lite and a third-place finish in Sport. The young rider is quickly proving that he is a force to be reckoned with in the ultra-competitive Sport classes.
Carlson Moto will wrap up the 2016-2017 snocross season at the Grand Finale in Lake Geneva, WI. The team is looking forward to ending on a high note at one of the sport’s premier tracks.
