Jess Racing gearing up to defend Pro Lite title on 2016-17 AMSOIL Championship Snocross Series

WESTMINSTER, Mass. (Nov. 21, 2016) – Defending ISOC Pro Lite national champion Montana Jess is gearing up to defend his title in the coming months, as the 2016-17 season opener at Spirit Mountain in Duluth, Minnesota, quickly approaches.

Last winter, the 18-year-old Jess stunned the snocross fraternity with amazing consistency (11 podiums in 16 starts) all season long on the ISOC AMSOIL Championship Snocross (ACS) series. As other athletes (most with factory support) stole the limelight on occasion yet flamed out when it counted, Jess kept his cool and stayed in control right through the finale at Lake Geneva.

“Montana has been working hard during the off-season, and is now in Canada practicing on his new sled,” team owner Carl Jess said. “He knows he has a tough road ahead, with tougher competition in what was already a talent-filled Pro Lite class. We’re hoping to finally get the wins that didn’t come last year. That’s our next step after steady podium finishes; now we want those wins.”

While the main goal for 2017 along with race wins is to repeat as Pro Lite champion before advancing to Pro Open, Jess knows the road to more success will be filled with obstacles. Never one to back away from a challenge, the always-eager New England native is optimistic about Duluth and a brand new season.

“I know it won’t be easy to repeat, with new guys coming in and rising talent moving up from the Sport class,” the reigning champion said. “I’ve got a great new sled with Arctic Cat, and everything is in place including my mechanic, Ziggy, to pick up where we left off last March. Now we’re after the wins and more of that consistency that won us a title in 2016.”

One news item creating a huge buzz in the snocross community this pre-season is the Fuel Injected engine in Arctic Cat’s beautiful new ZR6000R SX. Mechanics and riders across the snowbelt are eagerly waiting to see how this highly-advanced engine does on the racetrack. Jess feels it will help all Cat racers with holeshots and consistent power around the entire track.

“I think the new sled is going to be an advantage for me and all of Team Arctic,” Jess added. “It has incredible throttle response, and they made improvements in other areas, as well. I can’t wait to throw some roost on the competition in Duluth and keep them behind me all season long.”

The 2016-17 ISOC season kicks off on November 25-27 with the 25th annual AMSOIL Duluth National at Spirit Mountain. Jess Racing will again be based out of Princeton, MN, during the ISOC season, allowing Montana to continue training at ERX Motor Park in Elk River, Minnesota.
