Duluth, MN (March 6, 2017) – Jake Angove made it back-to-back wins in the Pro Lite class with a victory in Friday’s main event on the challenging Sundown Mountain resort ski hill course in Dubuque, Iowa. Angove continued to show a new-found aggression in his qualifying heat races that has translated into either quick starts or the ability to knife through traffic.
“I had a bad start in my first heat race on Friday,” said Angove. But I was able to pick the guys off and end up with a second which felt really good and just helped carry the momentum over. I just line up now knowing I can contend for the win every time.”
On Saturday, Angove and teammate Nick Lorenz did not get the best starts in the main event but worked their way to the front of the pack. Angove was racing in the fifth position when a mistake by the third and fourth place riders allowed him to move passed into a third place podium finish.
Lorenz, who was nearly dead last at the start of the first lap put in perhaps his best ride of the season, passing 10 riders on a narrow and technical course. At the finish he had closed up right behind Angove finishing fourth overall. “We changed suspension for the LCQ and took a little rebound out,” said Lorenz. It really helped me be able to climb the uphill better. It felt good to come from 14th to fourth and be able to push it the whole race.”
Ross Martin had a sixth place finish in the Pro Open final in Friday and was looking forward to improving his result on Saturday but was caught up in a first turn pileup that left several riders struggling to untangle their sleds as the race continued on. Once he was back on course, Ross made a strong charge to get back into eighth place at the finish. “I’m just bummed,” said Martin. I got a bad start and when I got into the corner it was already blocked and then I got hit from behind. It’s went like that for two weeks in a row now and I can’t wait to get to Lake Geneva and finish the season on a positive note.”
The series will be off next weekend before heading to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin for the season finale. With two big finals on the line, Jake Angove is still mathematically in the hunt for the Pro Lite championship. Ross Martin has the opportunity to move into the top five in Pro Open as the premier class will take part in three main events during the weekend, including a live CBS Sports broadcast on Sunday.
